Ronnie Goldman of Croft & Bender will lead a panel discussion on the key trends and drivers for M&A in 2018, including what potential risks there are on the horizon, and how all this may affect valuations and overall activity. The panel, comprising representatives from private equity, commercial lending, a corporate strategic acquirer, and investment banking will identify the opportunities and risks they perceive in the next 12 months and how this may impact the M&A environment and valuations

Michael S. Blake, CFA, ASA, ABAR, BCA
Director, Brady Ware & Co.

Mr. Blake specializes in the valuation of intellectual property-driven firms, such as software firms, aerospace firms and professional services firms, most frequently in the capacity as a transaction advisor, helping clients obtain great outcomes from complex transaction opportunities. Mr. Blake is also a specialist in the appraisal of intellectual properties as stand-alone assets, such as software, trade secrets, and patents. He has been a full-time business appraiser for 13 years with public accounting firms, boutique business appraisal firms, and an owner of his own firm. Prior to that, he spent 8 years in venture capital and investment banking, including transactions in the U.S., Israel, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Mr. Blake is very active in the Atlanta startup community. He is the co-founder of StartupLounge, and has coached 6 teams to victory in various business plan competitions for a total of $350,000 in prize money and another entrepreneur who received funding through ABC’s Shark Tank.He was named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2009, is a graduate of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2014, is Treasurer of Care and Counseling Center of Georgia.

Matt Carroll
General Partner, WestView Capital Partners

Prior to joining WestView Capital Partners at its inception, Matt was Vice President of Corporate Development for LogistiCare, a leading provider of outsourced medical transportation logistics and cost containment services to the healthcare payor market. During his tenure, the company’s revenue grew from $40 million to greater than $200 million. Previously, he served as an Associate at Triumph Capital Group, a Boston-based private equity firm which managed more than $800 million of capital under management. While at Triumph, Matt invested in middle-market healthcare services, business services and communications companies and served on several Boards of Directors, including LogistiCare. He previously was an analyst with the Acquisition/Private Capital Group at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc. where he completed numerous private equity, mezzanine and senior debt financings.

 


Paul Gibson
Managing Director, Hercules Capital

Paul is a Managing Director in the Technology Group at Hercules. He is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of commercial banking experience, including more than 13 years in venture lending, focused on structuring financial transactions for growth technology and life sciences-related companies. Paul’s depth of banking experience and industry knowledge, coupled with his strong network, is reflected in his proven track record of identifying, building, and managing a high-quality technology portfolio.

Prior to joining Hercules, Paul served as Managing Director at Horizon Technology Finance, and was responsible for business development in the technology market. Prior to Horizon, he served as Senior Vice President, Regional Market Manager at Bridge Bank in Reston, Virginia and established Bridge Bank’s Eastern Region. Prior to joining Bridge Bank, Paul worked in a number of finance and business development roles at Square 1 Bank, Silicon Valley Bank and California State Bank. Paul began his career at Security Pacific Bank.

 


David Blau
Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Investments, Cox Enterprises

David Blau is vice president of corporate strategy and investments for Cox Enterprises, a leading communications, media and automotive services company. Blau is responsible for growing and diversifying the Cox’s portfolio of companies. Blau spent 19 years with Cox Communications, the company’s broadband communications and entertainment division, and served in various leadership roles. He helped Cox develop, build and operate successful businesses operations in Las Vegas and Nebraska, as well as helped launch Cox Home Security and Cox Tech Solutions. Most recently, he led the company’s efforts to expand into adjacent areas in communications infrastructure and healthcare through several strategic acquisitions and investments, including Easy Tel, EdgeConnex, Trapollo and InSite Wireless Group. Prior to joining Cox, he served as a senior accountant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP in Atlanta.

Ronnie Goldman 
Managing Director, Croft & Bender LP

Mr. Goldman joined Croft & Bender in 1997. Prior to Croft & Bender, Mr. Goldman worked in the Corporate Finance Department at The Robinson-Humphrey Company, Inc. Mr. Goldman has substantial experience in mergers, acquisitions, private equity transactions and public offerings, and has been involved in a wide range of industries. Mr. Goldman is also a Partner of C&B Capital, a growth equity fund affiliated with Croft & Bender. He has served as Board Member or Observer for a number of companies, including Payerpath, Vesdia, Focus, Reach Health, Cypress Care, and Navitas.
